Deep within every rooted and established Christian is the desire to please God. Therefore in our quest to do so, we forget that it is not our works that please Him, but it is our faith in Him which is exhibited as trust that pleases Him. (Hebrews 11:6) Faith in Him that He will reach to completion the good work He has started in you, faith that He is not a man that He should lie, everything He has spoken will come to pass and with Him all things are possible. As you are reading, you may not understand where I am going with this, but let me share my little testimony.

All my life I have struggled with trusting God but I never noticed that’s what I was doing. God had spoken so many times through dreams and the body of Christ of the calling on my life, and every time I had believed but I never trusted Him with the process. There are various times I found myself wondering how, when I would get there and where exactly it would happen and it frustrated me getting me into a pit of self-doubt, fear, inadequacy, and disbelief. Then one day, He whispered to me and said: “Be still and know that I am God”.

This is the case with most of us, we trust God that He will do what He promised but rarely with the process that is needed to get us to the Promised Land. There is a thin line between doing your part and trying to help God to fulfil His Word over your life. God is God all by Himself and all He said over your life He will bring it to pass without your help, all He wants is for you to yield your heart, be still and follow wherever He leads. Our part in fulfilling what God has spoken over our life is only our obedience to His Spirit and our willingness. In the encounter in Luke 1:26-38 whereby Mary is visited by the angel Gabriel with the news that she would conceive the Messiah, she asks, “How will this be” but the angel gives an answer, that still calms the raging seas in your heart and mine as well. Angel Gabriel says “The Holy Spirit will come on you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you. So the Holy One to be born will be called the Son of God….”The reply of Angel Gabriel calms my soul and gives me rest in the hands of the Almighty God. It entails that whatever God calls you to, whoever God calls you to be, He also gives the grace, the ability and the strength, not our own.

What a Mighty God we serve! He has the ability to fulfil everything that He has said about your life, whoever He said you will be lies not in your own strength, it is neither by might nor by power but His Spirit says the Lord[i]. Trust God in and with the process. His Spirit in you will cause you to will and to do so that you will be who He has called you to be and receive the promise He spoke over your life, family, academics, finances, etc. In addition, God will overshadow you with His power, just as He did with Mary, He never changes. Mary, through the Holy Spirit and His power, was able to pass through all the troubles, persecution and pain of even giving birth as a virgin without any Caesarean section procedure done on her. God in His infinite wisdom prepared Mary to be a mother to the Messiah, and she trusted Him even before giving birth no matter what she had to go through, she held on to the faith.

Finally still on the reply of angel Gabriel, he said: “So the Holy One to be born will be called the Son of God”, I wondered why? But when I thought of it, it then clicked in my mind that it was not only because He was the Messiah, but because He was born out of the Spirit of God and through the power of God, not of Mary and Joseph. Therefore whatever God will bring out of us, when we yield to His Spirit and allow His power, not ours to fulfil His promises over our lives will be of God. Then the glory will go to Him, and that will be established in Him, no one can take it away from us or try to mimic it.

Therefore let’s stop trying to figure out how, when and where but yield ourselves to His  Spirit so as to see His grace at work in us, transforming us till we get to the Promised Land. Even if you will have to go through the fire, remember that in the fire He is with you and after that, you will be refined, purified to possess that which He will give. Trust Him in the process, trust Him with the process, even when you don’t understand, at times we may never understand but after all is said and done you will testify. Remember we serve a God who calls things that are not as if they were, and you are part. You may not look like it now, but you will be it soon. Situations may not speak the blessing/ the promised favour but remember it is already established, for no word that God speaks returns to Him void, it will accomplish that which it has been sent to do and His word never fails.

Lastly, I will say again, “Trust Him in the process and trust Him with the process”. He is a faithful God!
