Whether you know it or not, whether you believe it or not, we all are gifted in diverse ways. There is something that you are very good at. Something you naturally seek to do with relative ease and great enthusiasm. We are most effective when we lead in the area of our gifts.

Knowing there were enemies and friends to Timothy’s gifts, Apostle Paul encouraged him to look beyond his enemy and concentrate on his friends. Timothy was to do this by stirring up the gifts in him. Therefore I remind you to stir up the gift of God which is in you through the laying on of my hands. For God has not given us a spirit of fear, For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind..” (2 Timothy 1:6-7).

The enemy to our gifts is fear. Fear is in two folds;

Uncertainty: Not sure of what you have and the things you can do. Not sure whether those inner desires that spring out from you are truly your gifts or just an illusion. Having the fear that something bad may happen or things will turn out against you.

Doubt: Having limited believe in your abilities. Having the feeling and fear that your dreams may be truncated by some means. Not having enough confidence in yourself, not knowing what or who to believe. Having an apprehension about something.

In the midst of this enemy are three powerful friends; sound mind, love, and power. You need to have a sound mind (be clear) on your gifts and capabilities. Be clear on the fact that God has given you those gifts not just for yourself but for the benefit of others. Understand the truth that your gifts make you unique and it’s your responsibility to grow them with the help of the Holy Spirit. (2 Timothy 1:14).

After embracing, ‘sound mind’ as your friend, then you move a step further to make friends with “love”. Love who you are and the gifts God has given you. Love to develop yourself and enjoy doing that which brings you great joy. I often say that if you love doing what you love to do, you will love that which is done. When you love your gifts, your gifts will love you back by being a great blessing to you. They will give you peace, joy, and a cheerful heart.

The presence of “sound mind” and “love” attracts one special friend called, “Power”. When you know who you are and love being yourself/ living your potential, it gives you the power (ability) to easily influence the lives of many. It also grants you the strength to do things with relative ease. You are able to match up the various assigned or expected tasks and do it effectively. Power is the courage and competence to get the job one.

Instead of being consumed by the enemy of our gifts; fear, let us be encouraged by these three wonderful friends; sound mind, love, and power. Let’s utilize and put our confidence in these wonderful friends God has given us. And as we do so, they will become a fountain of blessing to us and make us better in all our undertakings.

God loves you and always want the best for you.
