Scarred hearts, yet wearing the best make up, marred childhoods yet the best watch worn to fit the long made appearances, concealed to the world is the gruesome pain and bitterness they carry. Of course living in a fallen world what were we expecting to find except brokenness. Prescribed by the Maker was the dosage of love not only from Him but also through His beloved children. God called us out and marked us out to be a vessel of excellence, a conduit through which His love will be shown to the world at large and also our brethren. This is the knowledge we have but are we willing to be practical about it? Are we willing to take the responsibility and be radical about the way we love our neighbours, classmates, workmates or even the strangers we meet?

If you are, then we will begin the journey together. There are so many ways we can show love to others but today we will discuss one of the most powerful ways; loving words! Words carry tremendous power either to build or destroy, either to give life or death, to fix or to tear down. There are people who live lives of crippling insecurities, fears and failures because of the words of judgement, criticism and belittling spoken by their parents or friends. These people can only be healed by receiving God’s unconditional love. They have been wounded in their souls (their inner selves, mind, will and emotions), a place where God has a total access.

Isaiah 61:1 says that Jesus came to bind up and heal the broken-hearted. He is the lover of our souls and through Him we can be secure. However, once people are wounded by the words of others, it takes time to overcome the wrong image they have made of themselves. This is why it is of paramount importance that we use our words for blessing, healing and building up, not for cursing, wounding or tearing down. Words create an image in us, Proverbs 23:7 says that as a man thinks in his heart, so is he. Therefore the positive and loving words spoken to a broken person will eventually break off the negativity that has taken root in one’s heart.

Multitudes of people around us need just someone to believe in them or just pass a sincere compliment and you have made their day. Let us make a decision to speak encouraging and loving words, let love be a habit. The fleshly nature points out flaws, weaknesses and tends to feed on the negatives in life. But we have overcome with good. It is easy to find something wrong with everyone, BUT love covers a multitude of sins. 1 Peter 4:8

Martin Luther King once said “I have decided to stick with love. Hate is too great a burden to bear.”[i] Let us be carriers of love in our worn generation. Speak words of love and speak words of kindness; slowly your sphere of influence will increase. All in this; People can only give what they have, as you sow good seeds of love in others, they also will be able to do likewise to other people hence a vicious love cycle is set ablaze!
