How often have we deceived ourselves that change begins with a group of people? Well, inasmuch as a group of people is needed for a change or a movement, it takes only an individual to effect change.

God affirms this by revealing His need for JUST a man to stand in the gap for all.“So I sought for a man among them who would make a wall, and stand in the gap before Me on behalf of the land, that I should not destroy it; but I found no one.”  Ezekiel 22:30 NKJV

This scripture reveals the following:

A man: It takes just a man to change the mind or situation of others. Man, as used in this context, means male and female. God needs only an individual to cause any change or movement.

Among them: Mostly, the best person to assist any organisation is an individual among the people. One who knows the system and is willing to dedicate him/herself to a cause. I believe that the answer to every organizational problem is within the organisation.

Build a wall: Having the desire to protect the best interest of any organisation is one of the simplest ways to emerge as a leader. Also, a builder of walls means one needs to be constructive, creative and hard working.

Stand in the gap: The concern for the betterment of others is a hallmark of an intercessor. An emerging leader or a leader must endeavor to stand in the gap between the people and the Maker.

On behalf of the land: The land refers to the people and things that work together for their good. Genuinely having the interest of others at heart surely has the ability to turn things around.

In all, this scripture makes us understand that it takes JUST A MAN to effect change. If God had just an individual doing what he/she is expected to do, for the sake of that person, a lot of people will be saved. Our organisation, YOUCUS is all about you. We believe change begins with an individual.

Therefore, standing out as an agent of change, to live your purpose and maximize your potential is something we all must strive to achieve. The difference anyone seeks to make will have a lasting impact if it originates from your purpose.

Our societies don’t need a lot of people to effect change, it just needs you and me. This ancient truth about change has been practiced in our society several centuries ago. It’s not surprising that the ancient philosopher, Mahatma Gandhi said, “As human beings, our greatness lies not so much in being able to remake the world – that is the myth of the atomic age – as in being able to remake ourselves. You must be the change you want to see in the world.”[i]

Always remember that it takes just an individual to effect change.

God loves you and always want the best for you.
