As iron sharpens iron, so people can improve each other
Friends are one of life’s greatest joys. Both laughter and tears are shared around the love-worn tables of true friends. Without them life can feel very dull and empty. Friends are an important part of our lives as we are wired to be in relationship with people.
Who is a friend?
According to the English dictionary, a friend is a person other than a family member, lover or spouse whose company one enjoys and towards whom one feels affection.
A friend is a person who becomes family by choice. A friend is a person who knows you more than anyone as they see both sides of you; outside of your family and when you are around them. Friends are marked by their loyalty, love and perhaps most importantly, their honesty. A friend is by your side, comforting you through the harsh trials of life with honest insight and godly counsel, even if the truth is difficult or painful. God uses our friendships to strengthen us.
By now you are probably thinking about your friends and asking yourself if they are like this and what they offer however I urge you to focus less on people and shift the attention to yourself? Do people you consider friends look at you with such affection? Do you strengthen them?
Some of us maybe surrounded by true friends while others only have a couple at their side however it’s not about quantity but the quality of friends around you. Regardless of the size of your tribe you are made powerful by the common loyalty to God. Standing together, friends unified by Christ can overcome anything.
In conclusion let us all endeavour to be better friends. Let us all look within ourselves and try to be the best version of ourselves for our community and friends. Let us endeavour to show love and affection to the people God loaned us. Friendship is a beautiful gift from God so we should all invest and maintain them.
