“Above all else, guard your heart, for everything you do flows from it.”

PROVERBS 4v23

The heart is a funny thing. It gets easily tricked into wandering away from what the Lord wants for it. We start-out with the heart for everything that involves God and then slowly but surely we start drifting away from Him. Our desires start to align with the world, one by one they go.

There’s a reason why the Bible tells us to protect our hearts! God knows that where the heart goes the man follows. He knows how susceptible we are to attack and defeat when our hearts are in the wrong place. I am sure by now we are all asking ourselves that, “Okay so what can I do to guard my heart?”

  • Pray

Prayer is a powerful tool that most of us just take for granted but it is a weapon that we have to change things in our lives. Prayer helps us change things in the spiritual realm by opening the door for God to come in and take control. Prayer keeps us from allowing other gods (money, cell phone etc) from inhabiting the throne of our hearts as we have established in prayer that God is in control of our lives.

  • Meditate on the Word of God

Once said, “For out your heart come evil thoughts, murder, adultery, sexual immorality, theft, false witness, slander,” this is true on every level. What is in your heart is what flows out of you. It’s as simple as when your heart is full of bitterness you always reflect that on the outside with your actions and words. Meditating upon God’s Word will fill our hearts with what is good and that is what will flow out of us.

  • Surrender your heart to God

We should always be like David who cried unto God to create in him a clean heart. We honestly don’t have the power to guard our hearts fully on our own we need God to do that. So we should be believers that are constantly surrendering our hearts to God. Allowing Him to take control and to take away all that is not right inside our hearts.

In conclusion, out of our hearts flows life so we should guard it with all that we have to make sure that it is not swayed from what is true, what is pure, what is good, what is worthy of praise and that is God. We should all endeavour to keep God at the throne of our hearts as this is fitting and good.
